10 Greatest Rock Song Intros From The 1970s

8. Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynrd

The perfect clean Fender Strat tone sets the scene followed by the late Ronnie Van Zandt's 'turn it up' aside. This was actually a request to the producer to turn up the sound in his headphones, but was left on as the ideal scene setter.

Although 'Freebird' has become the signature song for many, Skynrd fans will know that 'Alabama' is much more representative of their southern boogie rock'n'roll.

Incidentally, the lyrics have a dig at Neil Young, whose earlier song, 'Southern Man', was seen as taking a shot at the south.
