10 Greatest Rock Song Intros From The 1970s

7. 20th Century Boy - T Rex

Marc Bolan is underrated as a riff master, yet the T Rex catalogue is full of great guitar lines and intros. The T Rex sound is instantly recognisable, the crunching Bolan guitar, the backing vocals and string parts and Bolan's ad-libbed 'yeah's make for an irresistible combo that saw T Rextasy rival Beatlemania in the first half of the seventies.

Bolan was at the absolute height of his success when this was released - never lacking in self-confidence he could be withering in interviews at the time, unafraid to take shots at The Beatles and The Stones. That confidence was well founded, based on a staggering run of mega hits, with more to follow after this one.
