10 Greatest Shows In Rock History

8. Rush In Rio

At the start of the '00s, the Rush they we knew and loved was basically dead. After being one of the biggest faces in prog music for decades, the death of Neil Peart's wife and daughter within the span of a few years left him cold and lost, not even wanting to touch his drums again. When he finally decided to reunite with his Canadian brethren, Rush In Rio was the sound of a band reborn.

Playing to one of the biggest stadiums that had performed in their career, this entire set list was a crash course in everything they made Rush amazing, from the long stretches of songs like the bits and pieces of 2112 to hearing the entire crowd singing along to YYZ. Keep in mind...YYZ is an instrumental...and yet they still had thousands of people eating out of the palm of their hand with every single guitar lick coming off of Alex Lifeson's fretboard.

Given all that led to this moment, this entire concert feels cathartic for Rush, braving the storm of touring again and coming out looking like seasoned veterans. Even Neil had come around on things by the end, saying to their manager that it would have been a shame if it never happened again. Whereas other bands manage to rake in the big bucks on nostalgia, there's no substitute for putting in the real work like this.
