10 Greatest Singers In Rock Music History
8. Hayley Williams - Paramore
Isn't it weird how most of the rock singers that people remember have all been male? Outside of the greats like Janis Joplin and Joan Jett, the vast majority of the greatest rock singers tend to be just your standard white guy with a mic in his hand. Once the '00s open up though, it was no contest that Hayley Williams was the best singer to come on the rock scene in quite a while.
At a time when people like The Strokes and the White Stripes had intentionally spotty vocal performances, Hayley's work on Paramore's records felt like a battering ram hitting you in the face. Just listening to a song like That's What You Get or All I Wanted is enough to sell you on the aggression in her voice, going almost operatic in places to really push the song forward.
That's not to say that she doesn't know how to dial it back though, with her more soft spoken songs like the Only Exception and In the Mourning showing just how delicate she can sound with the right arrangement behind her. Above all else, you have to credit Hayley for keeping Paramore's longevity after all these years. No matter how many times band members might come and go in the lineup, you can always count on a certain level of quality when you have a straight up banshee behind the mic.
