10 Greatest Supergroups In Rock History

4. Velvet Revolver

When looking back on the fallout of Guns N Roses, you can't help but feel a little bit sad for the players involved. As the tour for Use Your Illusion started to wind down, it was abundantly clear that this was becoming the Axl Rose and Friends show instead of the street level band that we got to know. Once the dust settled from every member ditching King Axl, some members found their new calling with...the exact opposite of Axl Rose.

On paper, something like Velvet Revolver just shouldn't work that well. Since Guns was known to come from the Sunset Strip of LA, how the hell would working with someone like Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots work out? Well, with Scott developing into a powerful presence as a frontman, the two albums they have to their name made him a worthy successor to fill Axl's shoes, having a much grittier baritone voice that fit perfectly next to the down and dirty riffs of Slash.

This also was a bit of a change of pace for Slash and Duff McKagan as well. No longer having to give in to the orders of Axl, this was a chance to return to the street level rock and roll that they had gotten used to playing back in the day. Since a reunion isn't in the cards anymore due to Scott's death, Velvet Revolver was one of the shining stars of '00s rock that burned out way too quickly.
