10 Greatest Taylor Hawkins Moments In Foo Fighters Songs

6. Subterranean - Sonic Highways

In Dave Grohl's recent book, he has spoken at length about just how close he and Taylor were at the best of times. Even if they had their disagreements here and there, these were the closest things to non-blood brothers that you could find in the music industry, as each of them fed off the other's energy at every turn. And if you needed any further proof, just take a listen to what's really happening on the song Subterranean.

On the surface, this is just your standard Foo Fighters ballad, centered around Dave's relationship with Seattle back in the days of Nirvana. When it came together in the studio, the drums never quite sounded right until Taylor got the idea of building the drum track together with Dave. So what you're hearing on the final take is Taylor playing the drums and Dave playing the cymbals separately, and yet it sounds completely natural.

Never for a split second would you think that the drums are two separate people, with Taylor locking in with the groove of Dave's cymbals throughout the entire track. It's moments like this that make you feel for Dave that much more in a time like this. He didn't just lose one his best friends...Taylor was like a member of the family in every sense of the word.
