10 Greatest Taylor Hawkins Moments In Foo Fighters Songs
3. Bridge Burning - Wasting Light
In the Back and Forth documentary, you could tell that Taylor was having some real struggles going into recording the Foos' album Wasting Light. Though it may have been the mission to make the entire record on tape, that meant that you needed to play your ass off to make sure you got the right take every single time you were recording. In between those long hours though, the first track on the record lets us know that he hit on some solid gold.
Opening up with just Dave's subtle rhythm guitar, Taylor was ready for war on this track, tearing through every drum fill like his life depended on it. If anything, this could be considered one of the definitive Foo Fighters songs of their later period, having the same bite as their early rockers while also sprinkling in some of the old school swagger that they got from some of their heroes along the way.
Considering this is what they ended up with, it's almost strange going back and watching the documentary and seeing Taylor be so insecure about his drum tracks. For as much of a powerhouse as he is, Taylor was still just a regular guy looking to do the best that he could for every song that he was a part of. If this is what he considered a decent performance though, none of the Foos had to worry about a damn thing.
