10 Greatest UK No.1 Singles Of The 1990s

1. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You

If Sinead's song made you cry, this one will give you goosebumps.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston made her acting debut in 1992's The Bodyguard. The film was the second-highest grossing of the entire year and won numerous awards - sadly, all of them were Golden Raspberries.

Whilst the film's reputation isn't the greatest, it soundtrack holds up much better. Houston recorded numerous originals for the film, but it was her covering another female music icon that most people remember.

"I Will Always Love You" was written by Dolly Parton on the same day she wrote "Jolene" (how lazy do you feel now?) and she took it to the top of the US Country charts on two separate occasions. However, this was nothing compared to what Whitney did with it.

Houston's version of the song topped the Billboard charts for a record-shattering 14 straight weeks. In the UK, it was only number one for ten weeks (pitiful, really), sitting atop the charts from December 1992 to February 1993.

This cover is perfect. Whitney gets to show off her incredible vocals whilst retaining the simple sentiment of the original.

A icon taken far too soon, Whitney's legacy will live on forever, thanks in part to records like this.
