10 Greatest UK No.1 Singles Of The 1990s
3. The Chemical Brothers - Setting Sun
The 90s was a great time to be Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, collectively known as The Chemical Brothers.
The Manchester-based duo had three platinum-selling albums in the decade, two of which went to number one. They also released a string of hit singles, including one that topped the British charts in 1996, "Setting Sun".
This epic cacophony of electro-joy boasts vocals from Noel Gallagher (creeping onto this list for the second time) and is huge in every sense of the word.
The track is full of The Brother's trademark block rockin' beats and plenty of audio delights that will make your hair stand on end and your ears bless the day they were created.
"Setting Sun" is a beautifully intense example of rave music - a genre that defined British youth culture in the 90s. Everyone who was young and into music at this time will have fond memories of The Chemical Brothers and will almost certainly have very fond memories of going mental to "Setting Sun".
The fact that a song like "Setting Sun" got to number one in the UK showed that music was changing in the 90s and it was changing for the better.
