10 Greatest Unplugged Albums In Rock History

6. GNR Lies - Guns N Roses

From the sounds of people who were there, the rise of Guns n Roses always felt like it was teetering towards absolute anarchy. Although they were all great at turning in stellar rock and roll tunes, the nonstop partying and chaotic live shows earned them that nickname of being the World's Most Dangerous Band. So...how the hell is a band like that supposed to operate when you take all the distortion away?

As it turns out, GNR Lies is actually a nice companion piece to Appetite for Destruction...by taking the exact opposite approach. While this is usually coupled with the EP Live Like a Suicide, the 4 songs included on this acoustic side were recorded in a handful of sessions and meant to show you a different side of what they could do. Compared to the normal GNR tunes, these just sound like the guys are gathering around the studio for an impromptu singalong, all while making subtle changes to some of their classic hits like You're Crazy.

And while many bands have tried to pull off the power ballad effectively, Patience might be one of the greatest that the genre had every seen, with Axl Rose sounding just as passionate and Slash even adding some tasty country licks underneath it all. Despite the fact that the next two albums were going to be a touch bloated, this was just a nice check in to see how these LA gutter rats were doing.
