10 Guilty Pleasure Albums Nobody Will Admit That They Love

2. Coldplay €“ Viva La Vida

Coldplay are a conundrum. Admitting you like them is basically the equivalent of chucking all of your musical legitimacy onto a pyre then setting the whole thing alight. Yet the band are wildly successful, having sold more than eighty million records worldwide and winning seven Grammy Awards after thirty nominations. So what's going on? Clearly a lot of people love them €“ but nobody will actually admit it. In truth, I probably could have chosen any Coldplay album for this entry. But 2008's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends didn't just spawn a bunch of incredibly successful singles, it was also received well critically, giving people even fewer reasons to mask their reluctant appreciation. But it's okay. It's time to stop hiding and start admitting. Viva La Vida has a lot of great songs. The instrumentation is lush. It doesn't overstay it's welcome. Repeat after me: €œI used to ruuuuuuule the world...€
