10 Hard Rock Albums That Are Hated By The Fans
7. Scream - Chris Cornell
After the dissolution of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell was quickly turning into one of the most in demand singers of all time. Given the man's insane range, it was a dream come true seeing him continue his legacy in Audioslave, bringing the same bluesy edge of his main outfit with Tom Morello's guitar theatrics leading the way behind him. When their run fell apart though, Chris was lost, and had all the wrong people to nurse him back to health.
Which is strange because it's not like Scream sounds like a Madonna record or anything like that. This is still Chris Cornell's voice on every single track, only with some questionable cooks in the kitchen to make it happen. For this entire project, Chris was looking to find a new sound, and tried working with some of the hottest producers at the time like Timbaland. While it's not the worst idea to get some new blood in the studio, the pairing of the pop edge with Chris's rock background made for an awkward clunk whenever you heard any of these songs, like his voice just building to a peak and then going on another weird tangent.
This was definitely a noble effort on Chris' part to actually toy around with what his fans expected, but the fans really pulled back on this, being shellshocked that one of the greatest voices in rock history had decided to leave it all behind. As much as Chris might like to experiment, he has no business being on a song that sounds like it was an outtake from a Justin Timberlake record.
