10 Hard Rock Albums That Are Hated By The Fans
8. Ready To Die - The Stooges
For most legacy rock acts, fans are bound to go nuts when they hear the word 'reunion.' Even if some of these rock and roll legends are well past their prime, there's something about them tearing it up on stage and giving it their all that takes the fans back to when they first heard their music and finally getting to experience it on the live stage. Reunions do have a dark side though, and there's no greater case for 'be careful what you wish for' than what happened with the Stooges.
Though not many people were expecting anything too clean and sanitized from the minds behind Raw Power, what came out on Ready to Die was one of the most discordant records they had ever released. Even though The Weirdness had already put up several red flags for what Iggy Pop was going to sound like, the return of legendary guitarist James Williamson did nothing to endear this record to fans, making the whole thing sound like the same off the rails rock star only with a handful of decent guitar licks sprinkled in the mix.
One of the main gripes around a record like this is the pedigree at hand, like punk bassist Mike Watt subbing in on the low end and not really sounding like the rough and tumble madman that we knew at all. And for all the snarl they had back in the day, hearing a ballad like Beat That Guy coming from Iggy Pop is almost comical at times. The Stooges were all about the chaotic side of rock and roll, but that kind of chaos didn't have to translate to the studio.
