10 Hard Rock Albums That Were Worth The Wait

8. Deftones - Diamond Eyes

Since 2000's White Pony album, inner conflict within Deftones built, resulting in 2006's Saturday Night Wrist having to be written via a series of emails as opposed to working in a studio. This combined with frontman Chino Moreno's substance and marital issues put the band in what they refer to as the "Dark Days", and the idea of a new album in limbo.

The group would eventually reconvene and air their grievances in a pseudo-therapy session, resolving many issues and rekindling their passion. Soon, Deftones began work on what would later be known as Eros.

However, in November 2008, bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a major car accident, leaving him in a coma. Having worked so hard to fix their personal demons, the band was now rocked due to the critical state of their friend. With Eros rumoured to be darker and heavier, Deftones would opt to restart the writing process in favour of something more optimistic and uplifting to maintain morale.

Less than two years after Cheng's accident saw the release of Diamond Eyes, a stunning alternative metal album that combined the rumoured heaviness of Eros with the shimmering glaze that the band sought, deservedly cemented themselves as a genre of one and a standard bearer for modern alternative music.
