10 Hard Rock Albums With Only One Bad Song
6. Crawling - Linkin Park
Looking back on the early '00s version of metal, a lot of people try to hide the fact that nu metal even existed. Though we did have some exceptions to the rule like Deftones and Slipknot, the early days of JNCO jeans and white boys with problems is a lot more cringy when in the rearview. Linkin Park did stand out as something pretty good though on Hybrid Theory...as long as you don't pay attention to the lead single.
Yeah, it probably sounds like only modest praise by dunking on one of the most iconic songs of the era, but Crawling is probably the most juvenile that Linkin Park would ever sound on record, even compared to their later work when they were actively trying to sound younger. As much as the chorus of having wounds that won't heal seemed to strike a raw nerve back in the day, the tone of Chester Bennington's voice on this track is still one of the most unintentionally hilarious parts of the nu metal genre.
It's no surprise that out of all the good nu metal that came out back in the day, this was the one that managed to achieve meme status first. Then again, there's probably a good contingency of people who are laughing at this song rather than with it.
