10 Hard Rock Albums With Only One Good Song
6. One More Light - Linkin Park
It's never fun to hear your favorite band sound like their phoning it in. Even if the band's best days are behind them, the sight of a band going through the motions onstage always stings that much more for fans. On the flipside, the worst is when a band experiments with new styles and completely fumbles it.
By the mid 2010's, Linkin Park were coming off a strong late-era release with The Hunting Party, which reestablished their hard rock street cred. Refreshed by their return to form, the band went down the electronic rabbit hole once more with One More Light. Instead of leading them back into the pop charts, this album made the band look like they were chasing trends rather than starting new ones.
The shining exception to this is the title track, whose gentle electric guitar melody is soothing as it blends with Chester Bennington's vocal. The pain from this album hurt that much more when Bennington took his own life shortly after the album's release. As such, "One More Light" stands as one of the last comforting sounds that Chester gave us. The record may have been misguided, but no one could have predicted this would have been the end.
