10 Hard Rock Bands From The '80s That Should've Been Bigger

7. The BusBoys

Thanks to their connection to Eddie Murphy, through which they scored an appearance in buddy cop classic '48 Hrs.', The BusBoys seemed to be riding a wave to superstardom as the '80s rolled on.

The Murphy association continued to pay dividends with the funk rock crew performing during the comedian's infamous 'Delirious' special and on Saturday Night Live as well. Unfortunately for the group, Murphy was the closest they ever got to major mainstream recognition. Even 'Cleanin' Up the Town', a single they recorded for 'Ghostbusters', a pop cultural landmark at the time, failed to score particularly high on the charts.

Of the three LPs they released during the '80s, none managed to catch much fire. Their blend of rock and soul, coupled with a focus on working class themes and issues, made them a catchy group with a lovable underdog vibe. Unfortunately, it was not enough to help the rockers ever quite get out of first gear.

The years since have been surprisingly kind to The BusBoys with 'The Boys are Back in Town', their biggest single, becoming a favourite on US sports broadcasts.
