10 Hard Rock Bands That Totally Sold Out
9. KISS
KISS were the true freaks of nature in the hard rock community in the early 70's. When these four guys first broke out of New York with black and white makeup and demonic looking stage shows, they created excitement in teenage fans and disdain in disgruntled parents around the world.
The band kept trucking through the 70's with hard rock gusto, but something strange started to happen as they entered the next phase of their career. The band started to incorporate sounds that just didn't fit them, from the conceptual piece Music From the Elder to disco on the song "I Was Made For Lovin You."
With their return to metal on Creatures of the Night failing to reach a massive audience, the band took the biggest risk of their career by abandoning their makeup persona. From there, the band stopped being trend setters and decided to hop on the glam metal bandwagon on albums like Lick It Up and Crazy Nights. The glam rock look was already something the band had honed in their early days, but the idea of run of the mill glam rock coming from one of the creators of the genre left fans with a bitter taste. The band eventually returned to heavier territory in the future, but the 80's are still looked at as a dark time for some KISS fans.
