10 Hard Rock Bands Who FIRED Important Members
2. Foo Fighters - William Goldsmith
For all of the work they have done keeping rock alive over the past few years, can we all acknowledge that Foo Fighters was never meant to be a band?
When Dave Grohl was first starting to make a name for himself after Nirvana ended, this entire project was supposed to be a placeholder album for him to just let out his songwriting chops.
So when you have to fill out the band around you, how can you not run into some trouble?
Although the original version of the Foos worked well with Pat Smear and Nate Mendel, William Goldsmith began to feel more and more out of step when it came time to record The Colour and the Shape.
Since you have a drumming legend like Grohl looking over your shoulder throughout the entire process, Goldsmith was getting more and more frustrated about not being able to express himself, especially when being called "the rhythmless section" by the producer.
If you think that's bad, it only got worse when Goldsmith realized that the band actually rerecorded the entire album behind his back, with Dave playing the drums on the record instead.
While these are the kind of hangups that come with putting any band together, Goldsmith didn't really deserve to be humiliated on such a grand stage like this.
