10 Hard Rock Bands Who Had TWO Great Singers
5. Chester Bennington/Mike Shinoda - Linkin Park
Speaking of the nu metal scene, most bands were at a bit of a disadvantage when combining rap and metal into one song. Every other nu metal frontman seemed to be on just one side of the spectrum of singing. Where some would be great belters, their rap flows were shaky and vice versa. After years of settling with subpar vocals on one end, Linkin Park finally provided their answer to the dilemma: Why not both?
From the band's start, the vocals on their records always seemed to have an overlapping effect in the music. As soon as you start to settle into the groove of Mike Shinoda, Chester Bennington storms in to deliver either a brilliant scream or the main hook of the song. Instead of coming off as cluttered, both frontmen play off each other in a very natural way, almost as if they're two different sides of your mind as you contemplate how you're going to live your life.
Even after the band moved away from their traditional nu metal sound, both singers found a great way to continue on, with Shinoda adopting his own singing style and a more updated rap flow while Bennington's shout became more attuned to the modern rock sound. Linkin Park may have a digital aesthetic surrounding their music, but the raw talent of both these frontmen still finds a way to shine through.
