10 Hard Rock Bands Who Never Made A Bad Album
3. Led Zeppelin
Before Led Zeppelin, there was no such thing as a hard rock band. While there were certainly some psychedelic groups like the Doors and Jimi Hendrix who had a more forceful bent to their sound, Zeppelin combined the blues, rock and roll, and folk to create what we know today as hard rock. Any band from this era usually has a few stinkers in their catalog, but Zeppelin practically ruled the world until their demise in the late '70s.
Starting out as a blues rock band on their first few releases, the band's first four self-titled albums shows Jimmy Page perfecting the guitar riff, with Robert Plant matching him with his Golden God stage presence. Along with the actual musical structure, John Bonham's drumming made the entire band jump, with some of the most thunderous rolls ever heard in a rock band.
As the band continued to expand beyond the blues, albums like Physical Graffiti and Presence had them trade in their naive beginnings for some of the most expansive rock performances ever created like on "Kashmir" and "Achilles Last Stand." The band eventually had to call it quits after Bonham passed away in the early '80s, but one can only imagine the massive amount of kickass that would have been in store if they had decided to keep going.
