10 Hard Rock Bands Who Never Made A Bad Album
2. Deftones
Deftones is one of those bands that is virtually impossible to categorize. Though they certainly belong in the conversation of rock music, each album the band has made has taken on a life of its own, encompassing everything from nu metal to ambient music to visceral hard rock bombast. Then again, when every album is another solid entry, is there any reason to mess with it?
Ever since the band's beginnings with Adrenaline, they have proceeded to do their own thing regardless of whether there was a market for it, with Around the Fur being a perfect step towards more experimental territory. Though the album White Pony fit comfortably with the nu metal of the day, their use of ethereal soundscapes was far more artistically satisfying than a bunch of guys playing detuned metal.
After the nu metal glow faded away, the band continued to fly by the seed of their pants, with albums like Diamond Eyes and Gore incorporating even more experiments like flirtations with shoegaze material and an even greater sonic punch. If you only see Deftones as a band you used to listen to in high school, take a deep dive and feast your ears on the pure sonic bliss you've been missing.
