10 Hard Rock Christmas Songs That Are Actually Good
6. Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) - The Darkness
The Darkness has been one of the more interesting case studies to come out of the rock world in the '00s. With one of the more over the top vocalists in rock history in Justin Hawkins, this throwback to the glory days of rock and roll excess was sorely needed at a time when pop punk and nu metal started to take full control of the airwaves. Even though there was a bit of tongue in cheek humor to these tunes, there's a surprising amount of sincerity behind their one Christmas outing.
Make no mistake, this song is exactly what you'd imagine a Darkness Christmas song to sound like, as Hawkins reaches higher and higher in his range that would make some '80s hair metal frontmen jealous. At the same time, the lyrics are a bit hokey from one line to the next, as they frame the rest of the song in the aftermath of a breakup, as Hawkins's love leaves him on the day after Christmas.
For as much silliness can come from this band at the best of times, there's still something incredibly endearing about this track that hasn't really dulled in the years since. Is it a bit dumb? Sure. Over the top? Absoutely. Then again, you'd have to be a serious Scrooge if you to say you hate this.
