10 Hard Rock Christmas Songs That Are Actually Good
4. Run Rudolph Run - Lemmy
Run Rudolph Run is one of the more peppy throwbacks from rock's glory years. Long before any of the other rockers got involved with the idea of holiday music, Chuck Berry's ode to the red-nosed reindeer was one of the more engaging instances of rock co-mingling with holiday cheer. As time went on though, this track was in need of an update, and you couldn't get much better than the beating heart of Motorhead.
Being a practical disciple of figures like Berry and Little Richard, Lemmy Kilmister puts everything he has into this tune, as his bass rumbles from underneath the fray to deliver mountains of attitude. The added punch is also courtesy of having Dave Grohl in on the session, whose drum part was even shown being recorded in the Lemmy documentary back in the day.
Whereas other acts might want to go over the top with their presentation, Lemmy still has the same "what you see is what you get" attitude on this track, growling in the same timbre that we've always known and loved. Though he could have just as easily wrote another Christmas tune of his own, Lemmy's turn on the mic showed the new rockers how he could still throw down during the holidays. Forget running....this is the sound of Rudolph being strapped to a jet engine.
