10 Hard Rock Debut Albums That Suck
4. The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones
So...how does this slot go to one of the most celebrated bands of all time? I mean, ever since the Rolling Stones first reached American shores after the Beatles, they practically have a halo put around everything that they do, right? While there are some choice Stones cuts on here, this is one of the first times we get a glimpse at The Rolling Stones as a cover band.
At this juncture of the group's career, a good chunk of their material was nothing but specializing in bluesy covers that they would deliver right back to the American public. Though the Stones would use this to great effect by covering acts like Robert Johnson later down the line, it gets a little old when nearly every single track is exactly the same thing. Though Brian Jones is certainly showing himself to be one of the best guitarists of his generation, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards haven't really gelled as a songwriting team just yet.
Then again, it's not like they do a bad job with the covers, with Route 66 actually going over pretty well along with their incredible version of I Just Want to Make Love to You. Even though this was amazing at the time, this self-titled debut is an album that's only essential if you're truly doing a deep dive into the Stones' work.
