10 Hard Rock Debut Albums That Suck
3. Metal Magic - Pantera
Pantera is one of the few bands whose songs sound like they can cut through steel. Once the '90s alternative scene exploded, these metalheads from Texas came along and made their own unique brand of kickass one lick at a time. However, there's a whole different side of the group that many would prefer to keep under wraps.
While many would like to think that Cowboys From Hell is their debut record, their real beginning comes in the form of Metal Magic, which is one of the most unintentionally hilarious bait and switches you'll ever hear. Compared to their heavier period later down the line, this is a glam rock tunesfest that the Abbott Brothers made when they were first starting Pantera in their teens. Though the songs aren't offensively played or anything, it's just not what you come to this band for. It also doesn't help that pretty much every song is such a Van Halen knockoff that it's hard to take seriously.
If you told any common metalhead that the minds behind these songs would eventually make something like Walk or I'm Broken, they'd probably laugh you right out of the room. Even though Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul certainly had chops back in the day, it would take a little while before they reached their full potential.
