10 Hard Rock & Metal Bands Who Have NEVER Changed Lineups

9. Cream

Trios in the world of hard rock can be a little bit tricky. As opposed to having the typical four or five person lineup, having only three people providing the sound demands that everyone carry their leg of the work or everything comes crashing down. Though Cream was one of the first to manage this well, it didn't come without some collateral damage.

For all intents and purposes, these '60s blues rockers were known as one of the first mainstream supergroups, with Eric Clapton fresh off the Yardbirds and drummer Ginger Baker serving time behind the kit with blues legend John Mayall. With Jack Bruce settling in as the bassist and co-lead vocalist with Clapton, the destructive blues of albums like Disraeli Gears made for some of the harshest sounds ever created. While not sounding that intense today, songs like Sunshine of Your Love and Spoonful became the blueprint for what modern hard rock would become later.

That's not to say that the good times were meant to last though. Over just a few years of dominating the English rock scene, the egos between each member led to a falling out at the tail end of the decade, with Clapton quickly becoming a solo star shortly afterward. Even though there's a ton of blues rock that came after Cream, only the original 3 players could have made something this caustic together.
