10 Hard Rock & Metal Bands Who Have NEVER Changed Lineups
5. Rage Against The Machine
No genre exists in a vacuum...especially not nu metal. For as much as people like to classify acts like Korn or Deftones as the start of the more introspective sides of metal, mixing elements of hip hop and hard rock had been going strong since the days of Aerosmith and Run-DMC. If you had to put a fine point on it though, Rage Against the Machine is about as close as you can find to rap rock's zenith.
Exploding out of the gate with their debut record, every one of these members brought something new to the table. From a purely musical standpoint, Rage always had the most solid backbeat of any rock act, with Brad Wilk's classic rock stylings and Tim Commerford's mix of punk and funk gelling from the first second the song starts. Once Tom Morello came into the picture though, it became something completely different, with mad scientist sounds being emitted from his amplifier every time he plugged in.
The lynch pin of the whole plan though had to be Zack de la Rocha, whose vehement lyrics against injustice deserve a place among the most poignant lyrics in rock history. Ever since falling out at the start of the new millennium, it's a testament that the members couldn't find a way to replace their frontman, instead forming Audioslave with Chris Cornell out front. However, with a new tour on the horizon, here's hoping that Rage still has that same fire that inspired millions back in the '90s.
