10 Hard Rock & Metal Bands Who Have NEVER Changed Lineups
3. Queen
At the start of the '70s, rock was a much different animal than it was just a few years ago. With the offshoots of hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal just starting to rear their heads, the style of traditional rock and roll no longer had to be refined to just your typical Chuck Berry style material. If there was anyone who tested the very limits of rock though, it would have to be Queen.
Whereas most people like to extoll the virtues of Freddie Mercury as one of the greatest frontmen who ever lived, there's a lot more going on behind the scenes. Just to the side, Brian May is a practical musical genius on par with Mercury, stringing together layers of guitar parts to create the trademark Queen guitar sound. At the same time, Roger Taylor was the true rock and roll heart of the band, taking lead on his own forceful contributions while also having a searing high voice that meshed with Mercury's perfectly.
Even the sheepish John Deacon deserves a lot of adulation, given that he has had a hand in some of the group's biggest hits like Another One Bites the Dust and I Want to Break Free. The internal telepathy was so strong that even when Freddie departed from this earth in 1991, any further iterations are billed as Queen + Paul Rodgers or Queen + Adam Lambert. While it's fine to celebrate the legacy, there's no replacing any of these rock royals anytime soon.
