10 Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In 2 Consecutive Years
5. The White Stripes - De Stijl & White Blood Cells
The White Stripes' first album, which was self-titled, came out in June 1999.
The White Stripes' second album, which was called De Stijl, came out in June 2000.
The White Stripes third album, which was called White Blood Cells, came out in... July 2001.
Damnit, so close.
The reason we've excluded Jack and Meg's debut isn't because it's bad, but because this means we're free to talk about White Blood Cells.
Because they're both mental, the band decided to intentionally rush the recording process, getting the whole thing done in just four days. The end result was an album that was as raw as raw could be; a masterpiece of lo-fi garage rock.
White Blood Cells is often regarded as one of the best albums of the 21st Century so far, if not one of the best rock albums ever made. But that doesn't mean it's ok to sleep on De Stijl.
Named after the art movement, De Stijl is another example of the band's commitment to honest, grounded rock music. Critics loved its simplistic feel whilst also praising the musical performances and songwriting.
A great album then, even if you'll never be able to figure out how to pronounce its title.
