10 Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In 2 Consecutive Years
3. Slayer - Hell Awaits & Reign In Blood
Let's stay thrashy for now and focus on another of the genre's Big Four; one that was created without anybody being fired.
Slayer's debut album was a big seller for record label Metal Blade, who ordered that another be produced in 1985. This led to the creation of Hell Awaits, which was ironically a small slice of heaven for fans of big, thumping rock music.
This album went hard - really hard. Songs like Praise of Death, At Dawn They Sleep, and the title track all paved the way for the rise of extreme metal in the 90s, with bands like Pantera and Gehenna citing it as an influence.
And then came Reign in Blood.
In 1986, Slayer released what is perhaps their most classic album. Apologies to the South of Heaven fans out there.
This album is home to two of the band's biggest songs, Angel of Death and the (sort of) title track Raining Blood. This pair alone would be enough to grant this album legendary status. Everything else is just a bonus.
Basically, what these last two entries prove was that the mid-1980s was the time to be a fan of thrash metal.
