10 Hard Rock Music Songs Artists Want You To Forget

1. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

From day one, Kurt Cobain always had a bit of a limit on how famous he wanted to be. Although he wanted to write songs that people could relate to, he was nowhere near prepared for the kind of reception that Nevermind got, with most people calling him the voice of his generation afterwards. And while Kurt did ended up playing along with the fame in his own weird way, he also managed to turn his back on the band's greatest song in the process.

Then again, there's a reason why Smells Like Teen Spirit is played into the ground, considering it announced the new guard in rock music and was unapologetic with every word. As the song got played into the ground though, Kurt began to resent his biggest hit in a way, being shocked that the song that he wrote for the punk kids in the clubs was now being co-opted by the jocks who used to beat people like him up in high school.

As time went on, Kurt never really took a liking to the song again, either performing it out of necessity in certain stadium gigs or just not playing it at all. Up until the end of his life, he stood his ground saying that the song just makes him want to throw his guitar down and walk away. If anything, this is what happens when someone becomes too big for their own good. All of your dreams may have finally come true, just in time to realize that you've been crushed underneath the weight of them.
