10 Hard Rock Music Songs Artists Want You To Forget

9. Escape - Metallica

When it comes to which era of Metallica people cater towards, the early '80s really are the gold standard. Just before the band started to get a lot more commercial on the Black Album, albums like Master of Puppets and And Justice For All put them in the top tier of thrash metal bands, leading the charge with people like Slayer and Anthrax following right behind them. Though Puppets is looked at as the classic Metallica album, Ride the Lightning is just as good as their masterpiece...with one small exception.

When the band were crafting the songs on here, they had all the makings of a good album, until their management said that the label wanted one more song for the record to make it feel complete. Since they didn't have anything left to work with though, the guys just decided to knock out a quick and dirty song in one day, and you can really tell.

Outside of the shorter song length, Escape doesn't even feel like it belongs on Ride the Lightning, feeling more like a B-side and never really getting played live until it was time to perform the album in its entirety for its anniversary. Although Escape might not be a bad song, it's a song that isn't really supposed to exist. Whereas if they put their classic cover of Am I Evil in its place in the track listing, Metallica fans would be calling this album absolutely perfect.
