10 Hard Rock Songs By The Beatles

8. Get Back

After the much-maligned sessions for The White Album, the band were left with raw nerves and lots of animosity towards each other. While the aforementioned double record produced some of their best work, each member would more or less use the others as session players for their own songs.

To break up the tension, Paul McCartney decided it was time for the band to return to their roots as a rock band, and penned the song "Get Back" as a de-facto theme song for their next project. The tune is one of the most bluesy tracks the band created in their later period, with a chugging rhythm from Ringo and some of Lennon's B.B. King-inspired lead lines. Even if the lyrics of the song don't mean much, the mojo of the groove is absolutely propulsive.

This tune may have been a great start, but the return to roots approach was not to be. With the band still at each other's throats, the in-fighting in the studio led to the record being shelved while they worked on Abbey Road. Finally finding a home on the band's final studio release Let it Be, "Get Back" is the band at their bare essentials, which was still more impressive than other bands could ever hope to be.
