10 Hated Rock Songs That Are Actually Really Good
5. Hump De Bump - Red Hot Chili Peppers
The entire Stadium Arcadium experience is a bit much for even the Red Hot Chili Peppers superfans to take in all at once. The Peppers have always been known to have fairly long albums to sift through, so a double album that goes on for over 2 hours is a bit of a big ask for the more fairweather fans. And when fans try to cut out some of the filler songs from this record, why is one of those always Hump De Bump?
Granted, it's not the most lyrically deep song in the Peppers' catalog, especially since the chorus is just a barrage of total nonsense. If you look at what's going underneath though, this might be one of the closest songs that we've got to the Peppers making a jazzy take on a funk song, complete with a few horns in the mix and Flea absolutely annihilating his bass from the minute the groove hits.
And for everyone who wants to come at this song for the lyrics...did y'all just forget that you were listening to a Red Hot Chili Peppers record? Anthony Kiedis was never known to be one of the biggest wordsmiths in rock (just listen to Around the World), but he's not trying to be on here. When you step to a song like this, you just ride everything out and try not to get in the way of the groove.
