1. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJWJE0x7T4Q Former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel got one over on his old bandmates when this 1986 hit, complete with surreal video, knocked Invisible Touch off the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the UK this song peaked at number four. Sledgehammer showcased the infinite possibilities of animation, and did so by turning Gabriel's head into ice and most bizarrely his face to fruit. Dancing, headless poultry follows. Need we say more? Bristol based animation company Aardman €“ who went on to make Wallace and Gromit €“ helped to make the video and it proved to be ground breaking. MTV loved it, and according to Time Entertainment, it is their most played clip. Gabriel's animated antics won a still unsurpassed nine MTV Music Awards in 1987 and picked up the Brit Award for Best British Video too. These were only the beginning of the accolades. Sledgehammer illustrates that weird has wide appeal. What 1980s music video to do you find most weird? Have your say below.
