10 Hidden Details In Hard Rock Tracks You Never Noticed
6. Josh Homme's Drunken Recount On "Feel Good Hit Of The Summer"
After his departure from Kyuss, Joshua Homme decided to form a completely different project with Queens of the Stone Age. With an ever-evolving ensemble of musicians, the band would come to be known as one of the cornerstone acts of the stoner rock genre.
With the release of the band's second release Rated R, "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" hits you with the sonic force of a battering ram. The lyric sheet was initially seen as Homme taking a jab at the band's stoner rock genre label, with the words being just a laundry list of different narcotics. Though that argument does hold some water, Homme admitted the inspiration had more to do with his intake rather than a reflection on his style of music.
While still riding the coattails of their debut, the band threw a party in their home in the California desert to celebrate the Millennium New Year. After the party went on for over three days, Homme came up with the assortment of drugs in the lyrics while stumbling home. The substances mentioned are all the drugs that Homme can remember taking during the party. Given his high tolerance, it's a miracle Homme was able to stand up after the ordeal and give us one of the most indelible tunes in QOTSA's catalog.
