10 Hidden Details In Hard Rock Tracks You Never Noticed

5. Judas Priest Using Cutlery On British Steel

Once Judas Priest got around to making British Steel, they had already been praised as the forefathers of the metal genre. While each subsequent record had been done in between tours, the band decided to move out to Tittenhurst Park to record what would be their masterwork.

The estate they selected was the home of Beatle Ringo Starr and was previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Though it wasn't ideal for recording, the band found great sounds all across the grounds. Even when tracking some of the tunes, the band found inspiration for their material in the more domestic surroundings.

When it came time for the band to record their now-classic single "Metal Gods," they needed a sound that would conjure up images of robots making their way across the land. Not looking for anything too flashy, the band sauntered into Ringo's kitchen and decided to record the sound of knives and forks being shaken. After adding a lot of additional effects, the infantile sounds of kitchenware being shaken became the thunderous sounds of robotic hooves meeting the Earth.

Though there is a sense of metallic grandeur to everything Priest does, the British Steel involved in the album's production may have more to do with dining than your typical whips and chains.
