10 Hilariously Bad Hard Rock Songs
1. With Arms Wide Open - Creed
After Kurt Cobain died all the way back in 1994, the everglow of grunge seemed to really be snuffed out. While acts like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were able to carry on for a little while, the thought of low register singers actually making visceral rock music didn't seem all that fun anymore. Once you got Creed coming to the forefront though, With Arms Wide Open was the moment where everything became a caricature of itself.
For any seasoned alternative fan, this song is already everything wrong with post grunge, with Stapp's weird nasal aping of Eddie Vedder's style being too melodramatic at the best of times. Once you actually hear his articulation on this song though, it becomes a parody right out of the gate, as he struggles to even pronounce any of the words correctly.
At the same time, this is one of the few songs on this list that took a little while to actually start being hilarious. As soon as the genesis of the Internet starting appearing in homes around the world, the sounds of Stapp's warbly vocal delivery became one of the most frequently parodied in rock and roll, both from those who thought it was funny as well people who didn't get the joke, which made for even more hilarity when they tried to do it seriously. For as much that's wrong about this track, Creed has almost managed to have a second wind with this song based on sheer derpiness alone.
