10 Horrible Hard Rock Songs By Great Artists

3. Nightlife - Green Day

By the time the 2010's rolled around, Green Day had accomplished the impossible. After falling from grace after the success of their landmark '90s album Dookie, the band saw their star on the rise all over again with the massive rock opera American Idiot. The band seemed to be on the right track, but when they announced they would be releasing a triple record for their next outing, things went downhill real fast.

With every album taking on a different tone, the second entry Dos was a return to garage rock in the vein of something like the band's side project Foxboro Hot Tubs. There are a few decent cuts on here, but "Nightlife" is something that even the most hardened Green Day fan can't get behind. Instead of the garage rock stompers on the rest of the record, this song is painfully slow, with Billie Joe Armstrong singing over the hook while handing it off to a female rapper to complete the verses.

The idea of having rap comingle with Green Day isn't a bad idea, but the slow nature of this track feels less like a party song and more like the soundtrack to a heroin binge. Green Day would eventually return to form on Revolution Radio, but this is something that fans should bypass every time it comes on.
