10 Most Horrifically Overplayed Songs In Music History

9. Don't Stop Believing - Journey / Glee Cast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WxPyUzWSPA "Don't Stop Believing" used to be just another 1980's rock song that popped up every now and then to massive nostalgia. That opening riff was welcomed with great reception, especially after a couple of beers. Cut to 2009 when high school musical meets dramedy sensation, 'Glee' debuted on the Fox Network. Featuring a group of misfit underdogs, the students come together to sing their defining tune - "Don't Stop Believing". What started as an innocent cover in the pilot episode of the show, exploded into an phenomenon. The first few bars of either version of the song brings instant excitement, for what should have remained a staple classic. Instead, images of a choir room full of high school kids working on their problems and singing about it...kind of ruined it. The tune does have all the elements of an anthem with some of the most recognisable riffs in rock history. In 1981 it was a top 10 hit in the US and UK but the Glee crew took it to Top 5 with their version. It was literally everywhere. On the radio, on Glee product advertisements and mercilessly everyone who auditioned for the X Factor or Idol in 2010 let us know how a city boy took a midnight train goin' anywhere. Just play the above video and queue the groans and sighs - but I dare you not to sing along.
