10 Huge Rock Artists That Went Electronic (And Nailed It)

8. The 1975

Since the moment the 1975 started, there was always a little bit of electronic enhancement in the mix. While you could catch more than a few keyboard parts on their first few records, their unique brand of guitar driven tunes still felt like they belonged in the realm of pop rock if nothing else. Once you have that first taste of keyboards, you're bound to start exploring sooner or later.

Looking to get a lot more intense on their third record, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships isn't just flirting with technology...it's practically the entire thesis statement of the record. From one song to the next, Matt Healy is dissecting what it means to have a meaningful relationship in the age of the Internet, all while using that same electronic enhancement to get his point across.

It's an interesting case study with this album, since you practically have a glitched out production that's using its fluff to make a commentary against itself. There are even some strange breaks in the action where all your left with is the ambience, where you'll either try to soak up the sound or be lulled into a false sense of security until the music comes roaring back in again. Even though they may have started with the neon signs, this is where the 1975 reached for something beyond our world altogether.
