10 Huge Songs That Bands Refused To Play Live

2. (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!) - Beastie Boys

The Beastie Boys - proof that uncool White rappers could, somehow, still be cool.

The legendary New York trio put out their debut album Licensed to Ill in 1986 and quickly became one of the biggest names in the burgeoning hip-hop scene. Alongside producer Rick Rubin, the lads recorded such memorable tracks as No Sleep till Brooklyn, Brass Monkey, and a song so extravagant it needed two sets of brackets!

(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!) is still one of the band's most loved songs. It's tongue-in-cheek defiance combined with its hilarious music video won it legions of fans the world over.

Unfortunately, some of these fans kind of missed the point.

The song is actually a parody of similar party-themed songs of the time, meant to serve as a put-down for those who only live to get drunk and prat about. Unfortunately, that went way over the heads of many, something the Beastie Boys absolutely hated.

As a result, the song hasn't been performed live since the 1994 Lollapalooza festival. Kesha has played this song almost as many times as its original artists have.

That is mental.
