8. Adele - Skyfall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeumyOzKqgI Adele wins things. Simple as. Her music is personal and evocative and appeals to people of all ages, so it rightfully deserves recognition. When asked to record the theme song to Skyfall she was hesitant because of only making music that's personal to her. After reading the script for Skyfall she was hooked on the idea though, and had a lot of pressure riding on her shoulders (and throat) to give the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond film franchise a hearty track to match the occasion. Did she deliver? Hmmm... let's ask the Golden Globe, Grammy, Oscar and the BRIT Awards added to her already-flooded mantle of trophies that she won. Skyfall was a back-to-basics Bond track reminiscent of Shirley Bassey's work. It was soulful, brassy and matched the mood of the film perfectly. It pretty much claimed everything it was up for, so it's only natural to assume it was a chart-topper. Losing out to Swedish House Mafias 'Don't You Worry Child' for the number one spot was possibly the only title that Adele didn't have to brag about that year. But with all the polished accolades taking up space in her home, it's doubtful she lost any sleep over it.
