Damn if it hasn't been a long time since British virtual band Gorillaz (god that's a weird thing to type) released a new record. Last time was way back in 2010, which saw the release of both Plastic Beach and The Fall. After that, the future of the band seemed uncertain, owing to rising tension between band members Albarn and Hewlett.
Nevertheless these differences eventually subsided, and Albarn began talking about the possibility of a new record as early as 2013. It's been almost four years since then and progress has been slow, but in September 2016 the band's social media profiles were completely redesigned and a series of multimedia stories about the fictional Gorillaz characters was released.
At last, then, new music is coming. The band have an enormous legacy to live up to, with 2010's Plastic Beach achieving massive commercial success and being remember by people so fondly. What does a "modern" Gorillaz record sound like? In 2017 we're finally going to find out.
