10 HYPED Albums That Didn't Live Up To Their High Expectations
1. Be Here Now - Oasis
As they are wont to do, the Gallaghers were looking to pull out all the stops for Be Here Now. For most of the press tour leading up the album release, Noel had talked about this being the new phase of what Oasis could be, with songs that were a lot more adventurous than before. In the process though, the hype became too big for even the self proclaimed greatest rock and roll band to handle.
As part of their marketing strategy, most journalists weren't allowed to talk about the album, which sent fans into a frenzy wanting to hear what it sounded like. By the time that we actually had the album in front of us, we had a whole lot of guitar overdubs and songs that stretched out for way longer than they had any right to. Even though these are your typical Oasis songs, they seem to go on way past your average song length, down to All Around the World being almost 9 minutes long.
After many years though, both Noel and the critics have changed their tune on the record, going from being one of the greatest albums of the '90s to one of the most colossal fumbles in rock and roll history. Oasis would continue pumping out quality material until their breakup in the late '00s, but you can point to this record as the moment where their momentum stalled and their legendary status was finished. We could definitely jam out to songs like Lyla, but the days of Live Forever were dead and gone.
