10 Biggest Style Icons In Music History

9. Annie Lennox

annie lennox Androgyny is a sure fire way to make a bold and striking fashion statement, and when the Eurythmics first emerged on the 1980s new wave/synthpop scene as a male and female duo, Annie Lennox€™s distinctive style blurred the gender lines and instantly had everyone interested. The strikingly beautiful, short-haired singer who usually appeared dressed head-to-toe in traditionally masculine outfits formulated an incredibly provocative and powerful stage persona, and provided a huge contrast to many of the aesthetical excesses of the decade. Perhaps most effectively encapsulated in the iconic music video for 1983 release Sweet Dreams, Lennox appears in a suit brandisheing short bright orange hair and a cane, looking as though she is about to take over the world. The strength of their visual image ensured that the Eurythmics safely secured a place in cultural history. They are a great example of a band which, in tying in appearance and music, became of more worth than if they had been known for just music alone.
