When Avenged Sevenfold headlined Download Festival in 2014, they proved themselves as one of the biggest metal bands of the modern generation and one of the few to go toe to toe with the legends of the scene. Metal is one of the few genres of music that sees fans actively stunt the growth modern bands in order to continue listening to the classics, so it was massively heart-warming to see Avenged Sevenfold achieve the difficult and break through while remaining true to themselves.

Tragedy struck for the band and the metal community in late 2009 when Avenged drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan was found dead in his home; he’d been the heart of the band and the primary songwriter for many of their best hits. However the band persevered following such a massive loss and the Rev is there in spirit at every single one of their shows.

Not only are Avenged extremely technically proficient (they feature the excellent axe-wielding duo Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance) but they’re also a marvel to watch and sing along to. Listen to a song like Hail To The King or Bat Country once and it’s stuck in your head for the rest of the day - there’s a reason why these lads fill arenas after all!
