10 Incredible Classic Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear
1. Smile - The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys seemed to be on an amazing hot streak once they hit Pet Sounds. After years of playing traditional surf music, Brian Wilson's grand vision yielded one of the greatest pop albums ever to be created. Anyone would consider it a daunting task to follow up Pet Sounds, but the next single "Good Vibrations" seemed to be preparing us for something even bigger.
The new record, tentatively entitled Smile, would be an even more conceptual piece of music, with each track flowing into each other. Everything seemed to going according to plan, but the rest of the band seemed to be more and more confused by Wilson's vision once they returned to the studio. After months of postponing the release, Wilson started to crack up, as he suffered from massive episodes of delusional behavior during recording sessions.
After months of intense laboring, Smile was eventually shelved by the label, leading to Brian suing them for not paying him royalties for his near masterpiece. A version of Smile Wilson was satisfied with was eventually released in 2011, but the idea of Wilson fulfilling his vision of an album that would surpass the greatness of Pet Sounds ended up being too good to be true.
