10 Incredible Classic Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear
7. The General - Guns N Roses
Throughout the early 2000's, any new Guns N Roses project always seem to be under speculation. Whenever Axl Rose would re-emerge with his new ensemble for GNR, he would always tease new material, but the follow through would never come. While we did end up getting Chinese Democracy in 2008, Rose's initial idea sounded much more ambitious.
According to Rose, the band had enough material for almost a double record, with close to 32 songs in the can. Even more intriguing was the type of style it was being talked up to be, with Rose comparing it to Black Sabbath and claiming it was the heaviest thing the band had ever recorded. Quickly backpedaling on his statement, Rose talked about making one single album but fleshing out the material later for an anticipated trilogy of records.
While The General was the main title, the band went through several names from Atlas Shrugged to Zodiac before finally just releasing Chinese Democracy. Though the songs on the record are definitely a change of pace for GNR, the execution felt much more spotty than fans probably expected. The idea of Guns making a triple album is amazing, but given the tunes on the first installment, it may have been for the best that the record came out the way it did.
